There is so much detail, it needs to be savoured in bite-sized chunks. I am sure of this much, if you buy this book you will eat more salad. I think this book has several shortcomings. The friendship struggles and identity questions in this novel are SO spot on and perfect for the age level, and the eclipse intrigue and plot twists keep things unexpected and interesting. Decades ahead of her time in evolving a humanistic, feminist perspective, Gilman has been rediscovered and warmly embraced by contemporary feminists.
